I'm guilty but I'm lucky
(October 21, 2008)

I admit it, I'm one of the guilty 77% of mobile device users who has sent and received text message while driving a moving car. I know. I know. I can't believe it either. How stupid can you get, right?

I suppose that's the scariest statistic revealed in the survey done by Neverfail Inc, a Texas-based software company. And of course an engineer texting while supposedly driving was the apparent cause of the recent railroad crash in California.

I'd like to say that an emergency or work was responsible for my stupidity, but that's not the case. We're all busier and need to get things done when we can, right? But really, 11% of respondents said they texted during a romantic moment and 79% said they have done so while in the bathroom.

As my lunch mate and I said while lunching today, it's time to give up bringing our phones with us while we lunch, we both deserve a 45 minute break. Focus on the task at hand I say: drive, eat, read, type, but just one at a time.
