Sometimes it pays to upgrade
(November 7, 2007)

Sometimes advertising is so creative and unique that it becomes a part of our cultural landscape in ways that one least expects. This video borrows a little something from Apple.

While this video was produced for an organization in New Jersey, the idea applies just about everywhere and doesn't discriminate between types of civil unions or common-law unions - gay or straight.

Most jurisdictions actually do have differences between civil unions and marriage. The actual specifics may vary from one place to another and sometimes they are hidden or relate to something that happens when we're dead and gone - but they are there. For example in Quebec, if you are married and your spouse dies, you are entitled to the full "spousal" benefit if you are married. If you are in a common-law union then you will receive only a portion of the full benefit amount.
